A daily household routine that works even on the busiest days

By Bruno Correa · 9/26/2026

Most household routines are designed for a version of the day that rarely happens — the one with no unexpected calls, no late meeting, no one arriving exhausted. They collapse on exactly the days they're needed most.

Designing for the bad day, not the good one

  1. Keep a hard minimum — the two or three things that must happen no matter what (dishes started, tomorrow's essentials ready).
  2. Attach tasks to anchors, not free time — right after arriving home, not "sometime tonight."
  3. Let the rest slide without guilt — a routine with 12 daily items guarantees failure on a bad day.
  4. Batch what can wait — some things are fine done twice a week, not every day.
